Book Review: Spatial Statistics Illustrated

Spatial Statistics Illustrated is a new book by Lauren Bennett and Flora Vale that was advertised in the most recent ArcNews published by ESRI. The book contains clean graphics which do an excellent job describing the spatial statistical methods discussed. The book isn’t a comprehensive overview of spatial statistics but does highlight several key methods and discusses them in an approachable manner. I definitely recommend this book as it provides some solid reasonings why or why not to use certain methods. An understanding of the field the statistics would be applied to will quickly highlight the most appropriate methods to use for most individuals. As I read through, it was easy to pick up where certain methods would be oversimplified or overly complex related to environmental remediation. The book is currently only available electronically, and will become available in print format on September 5th. If you have the shelf space, the print book could become a useful reference. I could also see applications as an accompanying text for part of a college course.
